Associate Professor Dr Asraful Haque Sium is working at National Institute of cardiovascular disease, Bangladesh.

In 2006 , he graduated from Bangladesh medical college and hospital .In 2010 , he joined government job alongside he completed his MS in cardio thoracic surgery from NICVD in 2015 . He then started working as registrar in the department of cardiac surgery and was promoted to Resident Surgeon. He  attained training in minimally invasive surgery from U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre, Ahmedabad, India. In 2021, he became fellow of American College of Surgeon (FACS) and subsequently obtained Honorary MRCS from Glasgow and became international faculty member at London core review.

Minimal invasive surgery is his mainstream. He currently serving as the only cardiac surgeon to perform MICS in Government sector in Bangladesh. He has successfully done the first ever MICS in Bangladesh in 25th August ,2019 in Government hospital. He also performed EVH with MICS CABG which were done 1st time in Bangladesh. Subsequently on 25th May 2021 he operated DVR (double valve replacement) through MICS which is a history in context of Bangladesh.  He regularly performs CABG , congenital and valve surgery through MICS. Till date , he is doing the highest number of cases through MICS .

Dr sium regularly conducts clinical classes and training  in cardiac surgery dept at NICVD.

He has  been awarded by Prime minister of republic of Bangladesh in the 26th international conference of ‘associations of thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons of Asia ‘for excellent contribution in the field of cardiac surgery and for being the youngest cardiac surgeon in Bangladesh.

He also achieved JCI (junior chamber international) TOYP (ten outstanding young personalities) award in 2019 for excellence in the arena of cardiac surgery in such a young age.

He is serving as general secretary of cardiac surgeon’s society of Bangladesh.  He presented numerous scientific papers at home and abroad, also demonstrated live surgery in   different scientific seminars and his research has been published in many reputed journals.
